IT HAPPENED THIS WEEK

The meeting started with President Bill Gardner using his small gavel & big personality to introduce our guest Andrew Sisolak, District Executive of the Boy Scouts of America to lead us in the invocation.
Once the prayer was completed Janet Chabola lead the pledge of allegiance and Ron Foster pulled Allan Goldman out of the audience to lead the club in the patriotic song "God Bless America".
We took a short break for lunch & once again Bill Gardner lost his gavel and was using a dinner knife to call the meeting to order.
Some might be concerned with Bill's continuing to loose his gavel or using the dinner knife as a replacement gavel with the blade in his hand. We all know that as President your hide becomes tough as leather, so there's no concern about him cutting himself
What was really going on in regards to the gavel, was Bill's lack of attention due to a euphoric state brought on by the victory of Republican Scott Brown who will be taking over Ted Kennedy's Massachusetts senatorial seat.
There were a number of Rotarian guests at the meeting, Phil Hung and Glenn Sias from Edison, John Black, Linda Black's right hand man, Andrew Sisolak from the Boy Scouts of America, Lance Pritkin a lawyer from Bruce Jagger's firm and our Australian students from Melbourne, sisters Amanda & Vanessa Stoicov.
President-elect Linda Black came to the podium and spoke of Rotary District's Dodger night on April 17th. It will cost $35 per person.
Both Linda Black & Carmela Raack spoke of Haiti donations coming from Rotary. Carmela pointed out that if you want to get food to Haiti right now, we have an association with Feed the Children. For more information please contact Carmela or the Rotary District office.
Janet Chabola reminded us that on Feb 27th Culver City Rotary Club will have its 80th anniversary party held at the Beverly Hills Country Club. There's a lot of effort going into this event which will include a historic slide show and entertainment. We are looking for silent auction gifts of $100 & special drawing gifts of $25. Please be generous.
At the Feb. 17th meeting, Craig Ferre pointed out he will be taking a club photo and everyone should attend in appropriate attire. Allan Goldman reported that immediately following the Feb.3rd luncheon meeting, there will be a Rotary Foundation meeting.
The Australian students will be leaving Saturday, Jan. 23rd. We are having a farewell event at Red Betts' home on Friday Jan. 22, starting at 6 P.M.
The speaker for the luncheon today was Edison engineer Phil Hung who is a part of EMF group at Edison. He discussed the impact of the electric & magnetic fields on our health. Though not conclusive, the information was very interesting.
We closed the meeting off with Cartwright Sheppard sharing a political joke about Harry Reid's genealogy of relative Remus
Reid who was a notorious bandit in Montana and how Reid's office put a political spin on this notoriety.
President Bill Gardner closed the meeting off, knife in hand, looking for his little gavel and looking for more political victories for the Republicans.
