President Bill Gardner started the January 6th meeting wheeling a little gavel and wearing a big smile. The invocation was given thoughtfully by Joe Davidson and Bob Thompson lead the group in the "Pledge Of Allegiance." Ernie Garza came to the front of the room and lead the Patriotic Song "God Bless America." Doctor Trepaney had invited a potential new member Robert Perkins, a local immigration lawyer, and Darlene Kiyan welcomed him with the Rotary welcome song dressed in a very sharp YMCA shirt [good publicity].

President elect Linda Black reminded us of the District Breakfast on January 12th. Also the Culver City Rotary Club will be dark on January 13th. All of District 5280 is invited to meet the International President John Kenny at the LA 5 meeting downtown on January 15th. Any questions call Linda Black.

Janet Chabola reminded us the 80th Anniversary of the Culver City Rotary Club will be celebrated on February 27th at the Beverly Hills Country Club.

Craig Ferre shared what lovely young ladies the Australian students are. We still have a few openings on the student's calendars so contact Craig if you want to participate.

Fines were levied on Don Trepany for turning 48 [$25]. Chris King was fined [$25] for misplacing the Rotary check book while pursuing a pretty girl/new member at the Bill Wynn Party. Dieter Holberg was fined 20% of his winnings [$200] at the Christmas Party.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger gave his State of the State speech today and spent much of his time on the Budget. President Bill Gardner did the same with this meeting being focused on the Rotary Budget and what to do with the shortfall in Luncheon Revenues. The meeting was open to discussion with handouts showing what our sister Rotary clubs are doing to manage costs. There were many options including an increase in the cost of the meal ticket or having a facilities charge. Other Rotary clubs vary in their approaches.

After the discussion the Culver City Rotary Club voted and passed the following: We will drop the Lunch ticket price from $20 to $15 but every member of the club will have a $5 per meeting facilities charge which will be billed quarterly. If there is a need for an exception please bring it up to the Board for consideration
