IT HAPPENED THIS WEEK

Chuck Perelman saddened all of us in announcing that his beloved Faye had passed away on Monday. Per her wishes, services were private with only a few family members. Chuck asked that any contributions in Faye's memory be sent to the YMCA or to Hadassah. Announcements were the usual for this very busy time of year: More volunteers are needed for the Bill Winn luncheon next Wednesday. Come on Rotarians get in there and help out! This luncheon is a big deal for our Club and an opportunity to shine before invited guests and dignitaries!! Thursday the 17th is the annual Rotary Plaza Holiday party. Give Lyn Caron a call and spend a couple of hours helping out there. The seniors are a lot of fun and very appreciative of our providing a great meal for them. Ann Murakami was collecting food and money for the 90 needy families here in Culver City. Thanks to everyone who remembered! She further reminded us to bring teddy bears to the luncheon next week. Our CCPD is collecting them for children they run into in stressful situations. Let's be sure to get a lot of bears. Our visitors from Australia will be here in a couple of weeks. Home hosting has not been completely covered and there are still a couple of open dates available. Also day hosting volunteers are still needed. Call Craig or Laura Ferre and offer to fill those dates! Pres. Elect Linda was practicing the art of fining and managed to hit a truly speechless President "Roo" for a hundred bucks for a myriad of items, not the least of which was no gavel, his wife's new car and allowing Lisa to miss school for a Rotary meeting. With the business being settled, Lisa Gardner shared her fabulous experience this past summer with all of our friends in Manningham, Australia. Due to technical problems, she wasn't able to show us her slides, but from her oral presentation it was obvious that she had the experience of a lifetime there! She simply sparkled during her tales! Chuck is going to see if we can get the photos up on our website. The meeting ended with Wisdom from Paul Knoll's office as he reminded us that we were nearly halfway through our marsupial madness and the good in the world is enhanced by all of our efforts. Linda sent us off with the proper closing "you are always welcome at the friendly Rotary Club of Culver City. This meeting is adjourned." Rotary Moments Announcements Australian Student Youth Exchange Home hosts are needed for the last 4 nights of Vanessa and Amanda's stay here in Culver City. Please contact Craig at 310-398-9802. Sisters Vanessa and Amanda Stoicov, the daughters of Rotarian James Stoicov and his wife Eva, will be our guests for the student exchange from Australia. James, Eva and the girls have always been very involved in the Culver City & Northcote/Manningham exchange program and are quite deserving of a place in this worthwhile program and they will make fine Ambassadors for Australia. Attention all Rotarians- It is very important that we all take a couple of minutes and register with the district so we can be compliant with R.I. rules regarding our Youth/Student Exchange program. Anyone who will be hosting any activities with the students must register. This means Rotarians and their spouses and any kids over the age of 18 who will be joining you in the hosting activities. It is super simple - it literally took me less than two minutes to do - and painless too. Just follow the instructions below... Click Next and review all information to ensure its accuracy before proceeding. 5. Click Complete Wow, how easy was that???? We really want everyone in the club to do this. I know, I know. We've been doing our student exchange program for some 26 years and never had a problem, but this is a new age we live in and the main thing is to protect the kids and the integrity of the program. By registering it puts the students, the parents, and our club members mind at ease knowing we've followed the rules. And by being R.I. compliant we can reap the benefits of R.I. insurance that would cover our program. So please do this simple task so we can continue to change kid's lives with these enriching exchange experiences. As a reminder - We have the two sisters coming from Australia on Dec. 28th. We'll need people for the welcome at the airport and some help with the Welcome Party too. Sign ups for day hosting to be posted soon.
