IT HAPPENED THIS WEEK Wednesday, December 2, 2009 By Janet Chabola This Rotary meeting started off on a much different scale than it usually does. Everything was on a smaller scale thanks to the fine efforts of our in house investigator, Ron Foster. President Kangaroo was presented with the smallest gavel ever seen by those in attendance. I believe the dimensions were something less than ½". After that the Invocation was led by Joe Davidson with Bruce Jagger leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the greatest country on earth. Phil (birthday boy) Tangalakis lead the Welcome Song after Eric Hatfield, Past President of the Century City Club, was introduced. Janet announced that Kaz Ohara from Kaizuka is in the hospital with a brain tumor. We want the family to know that we are praying for his recovery

There were plenty of announcements as the Club has a very busy month ahead of us. These are as follows: The Bill Winn Luncheon is on the 16th at the American Legion Hall. Bring lots of guests as we really shine at this event! The Club Christmas Party is the 19th at the Pacific Mariners Yacht Club. There will be dinner and dancing. This Saturday is the Rose Parade Float decorating detail. Our Interactors will be representing us. Our Aussie guests, Amanda and Vanessa will arrive on December 28th. Please be at the airport to welcome them to the Friendliest Club on earth in the best city in the US. Craig and Laura Ferre will host the welcome party for them on the 29th at their home. Christina Fields passed out 2 flyers for Holiday events that we can participate in: SAVES at St. Augustine's is collecting food items for the needy (bring to next meeting) and our own CCPD is collecting Teddy bears for children in crisis (bring to the Bill Winn Luncheon). Fortunately the president didn't have much time for fines, so they will go unnoted here. Our guest speaker was a returned Sunil Thankamushyp. Sunil first spoke to us while he was an Ambassadorial Scholar at UCLA 16 years ago. He has now moved to the US from India and has his own business producing children's virtual world shows for the internet. The really big event of the day (maybe that's a bad choice of words) was the first Baby Shower held during a regularly scheduled meeting! Keith Jones and Clint Ehlers are adding to the Rotary family. Their wives Debbie and Christina were the guests of honor. The Jones will add a new boy in December, and the Ehlers will add a little girl in January. Lots of little clothes and gift cards were presented to them. A good time was had by all.
