IT HAPPENED THIS WEEK

With both the Davidson boys gone AWOL, I was pressed into service to deliver an impromptu Invocation thus violating my Rotary Labor Agreement that states "If you are writing the It Happened This Week article, you don't have to do any other jobs at the meeting." For this infraction I plan to file a grievance with the District. Art Endo led the Pledge and Clint Ehlers, along with the Pres, sang God Bless America without the benefit of a piano accompaniment.
The turnout was "holiday light" but we still had a nice gathering including Rotarian Art Rangel from Auburn (who is really becoming one of ours) and Kathy Haworth's guests – husband Tony, daughter Hilary, and son-in-law Chris. The multi-talented Linda Black led the Welcome Song and then stayed at the podium to run through a few Club announcements. Linda mainly wanted everyone to take the time to look at the Pampered Chef website. If anything strikes your fancy, your purchases can help the Club. Linda also wanted everyone to start thinking about guests to invite to the Bill Winn Holiday Party that will be held on December 16th. Finally, the Club Holiday Party will be at Pacific Mariners Yacht Club on December 19th.
Next up was Rod Foster who gave a brief report on the progress that his detective agency was making in the pursuit of the 15+ gavels that had disappeared over the term of Bill's presidency. Ron said that he had some good leads and that he couldn't say anything more than that at this time.
Chris King, who seems to have limitless amounts of energy, announced that the deadline to apply for the District trip to Ecuador is November 30th. Chris said that this is going to be a great event with twelve different service projects being planned. A side trip to the Galapagos Islands is an option after the service projects are completed. Chris needs some volunteers to go with him and the Interact Club to the Float Decorating project being held on Saturday, December 5th, running from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Please contact Chris to lend a hand on this fun event.
Kathy Haworth made her final announcement about the elections scheduled for next Wednesday. The slate of officers and directors is
in The Reciprocator. Clint Ehlers gave a quick report on the Membership Baseball competition adding that Cy's team is still in first place. The Book is still in his Clint's trunk – stay tuned for its next location.
There were only three fines doled out by the Pres – the first going to Craig Ferre because of his new website, www.surfkingsurfboards.com. Joe Davidson got somehow caught up in the whole website thing and was also fined $20 in absentia. Chuck Perelman was fined $30 because he did not volunteer to man the piano while Stephen Fry was away. Chuck put up some sort of defense by claiming that he was not asked to play but President Bill would have none of it. Art Rangel raised his hand and said that since he was such a regular Club visitor and knowing that our By Laws prevented him from being fined, he would make a $20 donation to the Club.
The program was put on by our own Carmela Raack, who has helped put together a "Youth Protection Policy" that outlines the District requirements for student hosting. The purpose of this program is to create a safe environment for students and young people who are involved with any of our programs.
The meeting concluded with brilliant observations from Paul Knoll who presented his version of why fire trucks are sometimes painted yellow.
