By Phil Tangalakis

Our Prayers and Thoughts are extended to President Bill, his father, Deano, and the entire Gardner Family on the passing of Bill's mother, Carol Gardner.

After the Invocation, Pledge and Patriotic Song, Prez. Bill attempted to take control of the meeting without a gavel in hand, as usual. Prez called upon Cy Pierce to introduced former member, Renato Romano and his wife, Alice, now from the Beverly Hills Rotary Club; and Chris (Marathon Man) King introduced M.J. from the nonprofit group, Beit T' Shuvah, who briefly spoke to the Club regarding the positive turnabout in his life thanks to Beit T' Shuvah.

An enthusiastic Linda Black, fresh from PETS this past weekend, made us chuckle when she explained the new theme of the incoming District Governor is "JOCULARITY." I leave you to your imagination, and will move on.

Darlene Kiyan introduced Monica a Senior from CCHS who our club helped send to Sacramento last year with the YMCA Youth and Government program. Monica shared her experience with us, and based upon her success in the Mock Trial competition plans to attend law school after college.

Capt Tim Messmer needs the entire Club to pitch in, in one way or another for the upcoming March 20, 2010, Culver City Rotary Club Track Meet at CCHS. Sign up to participate, be a timer, a judge, flip a pancake or help set-up or clean-up. Give Tim a call, it's a great event and keeps getting better.

Janet Chabola has planned an exciting evening for February 27, 2010, at the Beverly Hills Country Club on Motor Avenue in Cheviot Hills. There are 70 members and guest already signed up. Join the revelry.

Fine Time came, and a proud father, John Cluff, donated $100.00 in celebration of his daughter's recent marriage. Congratulations John.

Chris King then introduced Perry from CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) in Culver City, Perry gave an interesting overview of CERT's vital role in emergency situations.
