It happened this week! Once again our marsupial ring master Prez. Roo kicked of the meeting with his gavel promptly at 12pm. With a

quick welcome, Mr. Joe Davidson said a quick prayer, Mr. Jim Machado led us in a pledge and Mr. Brian Mooney led us in the patriotic song. Note that Roo's gavel was still present at this time as we collectively welcomed all visitors:

• David Bender from the Rotary International Foundation and guest of Ann Murakami

• Visiting Rotarian Art Rangel

• Bonny Beebe, guest of The Commish Clint Ehlers

Chris King tortured us with his version of the Welcome Song.

Next it was on to Health Updates - please keep Bill's mom in all our prayers as she is sick.

The gavel is still present.

Linda Black was up next with District Announcements:

11/14: PRLS Program at Hacienda Hotel in El Segundo (1/2 day). Great program for new members who can learn how best to serve and plug into Rotary.

11/18: Rancho Park Rotary's 25th Anniversary Party - See Prez Roo for details.

11/20: USC Rally at the Bonnaventure Hotel in downtown LA.

12/2: Baby Shower for Clint Ehlers (having a girl) and Keith Jones (having a black belt champion boy)! Will be held at our weekly lunch meeting.

Ongoing through 11/30: Pampered Chef Fund Raiser! Love to cook or know anyone who does? Then ask Linda Black how you can purchase great cooking items while helping to raise money for the club!

Continuing announcements, Prez Roo was then quick to announce the forming of a new special investigation unit to be headed up by newbie but oldie Ron Foster: D.G.I. which stands for Department of Gavel Investigation! Apparently someone has been stealing all of the Roo's gavels each week (along with anything else he happens to bring with him) and he has now charged Ron with investigating these mysterious disappearances. Good luck Ron.

Janet Chabola let everyone know that Joel and Linda just received a new grand baby! Mom and baby are fine.

Dave Bender (Rotary International Foundation) was up to the podium next to give us all an update on Foundation news and tidbits. A few notes:

o

Polio efforts are down to about 1200 cases in 4 countries only - India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria

o

$99 million raised towards the $200 million pledge

o

Foundation is developing a strategic vision for the foundation for the future with a greater emphasis on doing more local programs in the US.

Craig Ferre informed us all that the Maningham Club kids will be here December 28! As always, we need chaperones and volunteers. More to come.

The gavel is now missing.

Chris King let everyone know that the UCLA/USC lunch will be 11/18 and we will have two special guests. Come that day to be surprised. Additionally, we will be auctioning off items to help UCLA raise enough money to buy some better athletes.

The Commish was up next to update the baseball scores!

Schlebbers still in the lead with 16 runs

Machado's Marionettes still have 3 runners on base doing needle work

Kathy's Kids are special and have no one close to scoring

Dapper Don's Desperados are a close second with 1 run.

And then it was fine time. First up was Ron Foster who was fined $30 for letting Prez Roo's gavel get stolen right under his nose at the meeting!

Tim Messmer introduced our guest speaker - Carmen from the Braille Institute who gave us all an update of all things happening at the

Braille Institute and then launched into a lovely song about her dog. Awesome.

Paul Knoll wrapped up everything with some words of wisdom!

See you next week Rotarians! Do Good Deeds this week!
