Bellflower Rotary Provides Shoes for Tots

Bellflower Rotary assist 54 children with shopping for new shoes. By 8am on January 26, the Rotarians had juice and donuts waiting for the kids to arrive.  The children were bused over thanks to the donated Bethany Reformed Church bus. The children were selected by Caring Connections, based on family need. Caring Connections is a organization out of Bellflower School District that has case managers in all of the Elementary Schools. They work with children and families in need and work to find solutions either free through community organizations or at low cost. Bellflower Rotarian, Doug Easer, is a member of their Executive Board. Caring Connections has monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of the month that is open to the community and all community organizations. The goal is collaboration of efforts to serve needy families. when the children arrived, the staff from Payless Shoe Source measured their feet. They were then assisted by a Rotarian who helped them pick out a pair of shoes. Payless Shoe Source waived the sales tax for the purchases as Bellflower Rotary Foundation is a 501C3 charitable organization. Additionally, they applied their sale price of buy one, get one free. Thanks to all of the volunteers who came to help this Community Service Project to be a success. The helpers were Jean Seruntine, Dorothy Westrup, Rozangela Poscala, Douglas and Shu-Chi Easer, Dr. Howard Davis, Rick Searey, Dave Romberg, Joe Vasquez and Marlys Severson.
