Habitat for Humanity
Bellflower Rotary Foundation has sponsored a Habitat for Humanity Brush With Kindness Site. At this time, we are the only club in the District to sponsor an entire site. The Bellflower Rotary Foundation donated $5,000 toward the project and received an anonymous matching donation of $5,000.
According to the District 5280 web-site, a Brush With Kindness does exterior painting, landscaping, and completes minor repairs on homes of low income homeowners to assist them in their efforts to live in a safe and decent home. The Jimmy Carter Work Program has chosen Los Angeles as this year's building site, which will provide Rotary Exposure. Focusing on the eldery and disabled, Rotary clubs will come together to improve local homes.
All Rotarians who are participating in the "Brush With Kindness" project are invited to the opening ceremony on Sunday October 28th. from 11:00 to 5:00. This will be at the port of Los Angeles Berth 87, San Pedro. This is free to the public, suggested $10.00 donation.
The work week will be Monday Oct 29th thru Friday Nov. 2nd. Check in and breakfast will start at 7:00am and lunch will be provided at the work site. The work day will end at approx. 3:30pm. At this time the site locations are San Pedro and possibly two sites in Hollywood.
Rick Searey, past-president, was responsible for the Brush With Kindness project at the District level. A total of three sites was the goal of District 5280. Congratulations Rick on a job well done.
