(REDONDO BEACH)  The subjects this weeks our luncheon speaker discussed with us were certainly timely.  Indeed, it is as if they were taken from today's headlines.

Seth M.M. Stodder is an expert on counterterrorism, national & Homeland security, supply chain and international trade issues, immigration/customs/border security, and human rights law and policy issues. He teaches these subjects at USC.

Stodder said the number one security issue currently is cyber warefare.  He spoke at length about the NSA program which is responsible for electronic intelligence gathering.  He also discussed the Pentagon's Cyber Command which is designed to protect America's infrastrucre from cyberattacks, and to develop counterstrike capabilities.

Also on the agenda was Maxine Mechain, a Rotary Youth Exchange Student from the southwest region of France.  She talked about her year at Redondo Union High School living with Katie from South Bay Sunrise Rotary and the Terry Bichlmeier family from our own club. Maxine said she experienced many American traditions that don't exist in France such as the high school prom, homecoming and graduation day. Upon her return to France she plans to continue her studies, master the English language and one day become a judge.
