Today’s luncheon was busy, busy, busy!  Lots of announcements and lots of club business.

Bill Gard served as our greeter, Herb Masi delivered the invocation, and Karina Garcia led us in the flag salute. 

Visiting Rotarian's: Connie Siegel and Mara Santos and guests Jan McClory and Paige Lapen from the Blue Zone Project. 

Luncheon speakers were Tina Harris and Dr. Megha Sata from the South Bay Children’s Health Center.

Meals on Wheels by Paul Hashimoto and Karina Garcia. Next week Scott Fellows has signed up.  We still need one more volunteer.

Rotary Business and announcements: Paige Lapen introduced the Blue Zones Project and left a pledge,k known as the Mayor’s Challenge, to be filled out by members. The Blue Zones Project is a community effort that enables residents to live longer, healthier and happier lives by making positive changes to the areas where we live, work and play. If you live or work in the beach cities, take the pledge and show your commitment to creating a healthier community. 

PDG Chuck Anderson spoke on behalf of the foundation membership committee. He reminded the club that foundation membership awareness continues into the month of November and that we should encourage other members to contribute towards the foundation. The district recently approved 46 grants and up to $100,000 that will be used in the community. Redondo Beach will receive a grant towards the purchase of dictionaries for local schools. 

Herb Masi announced Redondo Beach Veterans will be honored on  veterans November 11th. He invited members to join the Veterans Day Service in Honor on Sunday, November 11th at 1:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Veterans Park. 300 The Esplanade. BBQ will follow $5.00 for anyone that would like to join. Free for Veterans 

The Salvation Army will need our help Thanksgiving Day starting at 7:00 a.m., drivers are needed to deliver Meals On Wheels from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

USC/UCLA Tailgate Party is scheduled for November 13th.  One more seat is available.  See Scott Fellows

The club’s Holiday Party is scheduled for December 8th at the home of  Debbie & Matt Killroy.

Terry Bichlmeier encouraged members to contribute pesos towards the La Paz Fundraiser. Funds are going towards new kitchen and outdoor dining space. 

President's announcements: Club President Nancy Campbell announced the regularly scheduled board meeting is moved to Thursday, November 15th from Nov 14th.  Location: Corner Bakery at 6:30 p.m. All members are invited to attend. 

She also announced a call for nominations and a Club Assembly on December 12.  The Assembly is a once-a-year members-only event; guests and speakers are not invited. The nominating committee includes the current club president and last four past presidents. Submit nominations to Nancy Campbell, Steve Scerra, Bill Paul, James Jackman, or Larry Hashimoto. *Nominate yourself is you wish. 

The program for today was about the South Bay Children’s Health Center.  Executive Director Tina Harris gave a brief history of the Center noting it opened way back in 1950. The clinic offers a mental health program, child guidance, and contributes towards South Bay Youth Projects. 

Meanwhile, Dr. Megha Sata discussed the center’s dental Clinic in Lawndale, opened in 2010.  “We offer treatment to anyone up to the age of 25,” she said.  “Our primary focus is prevention and early intervention. Our clinic offers comprehensive treatment including x-rays, examinations, cleanings, fillings and extractions.”
