Today, the Rotary Club of Whitehorse Rendezvous unveiled the Yukon’s first Peace Pole on World Peace Day at Rotary Peace Park.

The Peace Pole carries the universal message: May Peace Prevail on Earth, in four languages: English, French, Southern Tutchone and Japanese.

“Peace can seem like a very big and distant idea, but peace begins in our own communities,” said our club president, Susan Graves, “It starts with how we treat one another, how we listen, and how we work together despite our differences. Our club is pleased to bring this visible reminder of humanity’s shared aspiration for peace to the Yukon."

“I hope that this Peace Pole reminds everyone that peace begins with us, and it grows through respect, kindness, and a willingness to listen to others,” said Adeline Webber, Commissioner of Yukon.

“The Rotary Club of Whitehorse Rendezvous has a long history of contributing to the quality of life of our community. This Peace Pole is just another example of the organization’s dedication to making a positive impact in Whitehorse and promoting a healthy harmony amongst our citizens. As Whitehorse continues to grow and diversify, this message of peace is timely and welcome”, said His Worship City of Whitehorse Mayor Kirk Cameron.

The Peace Pole’s location in Rotary Peace Park is particularly fitting. It stands alongside the Totem Pole, providing a place where residents and visitors can pause and reflect on the shared message of peace and the importance of respectful relationships.
