Meals on Wheels is over the moon at the prospect of being able to harvest fresh home-grown veggies right at their new location, the site of the former Milsean Shoppe on 272nd Street. Members of Aldergrove Rotary Club arranged the work parties that saw Meals on Wheels’ front entrance transformed into an array of garden boxes designed to add delicious fresh produce to the meals their kitchen prepares.

Rushing to get planted in time for this summer’s season, Rotary volunteers pitched in to make this happen. First, the site was prepared with the expertise of Jason Froese’s prowess at the controls of his mini-excavator, and Robby Robinson who contributed a load of crushed gravel to level the area.

Next step involved cutting and fabricating the garden boxes from lumber that was delivered to the site. Who knew President Larry could wield a hammer and saw so well?  Much shovel and rake work followed with club members filling the boxes with the load of soil that Jason had arranged. And thanks to President-Elect  Jayne, seeds from the Compost Council were dropped off for Meals on Wheels volunteers to plant. With great expectation, everyone watches for the first shoots to appear.

Bon appetite everyone.
