Enthusiastically describing new and innovative plans for 2023, Rick fielded questions from the event's seasoned volunteers and elicited support for the up-coming event. Promising to be even bigger and better than before, RibFest Langley offers a weekend of admission-free family fun with music, kids zone, delicious Bar-B-Q ribs and craft beer. RibFest Langley is hosted by Langley's four Rotary Clubs at McLeod Park from August 18-20. Thanking him, Janet Ingram-Johnson presented Rick with the "coveted" Aldergrove Rotary Club coffee mug.

Thank You for Caring Tea Volunteers from the Aldergrove Rotary Club Starfish Backpack Program receive a cheque for $14,000. The exceedingly generous donation came from proceeds from the Thank You for Caring Langley Christmas Tea, a community event created by the late Debbie Froese, who was the wife of Langley Township's mayor Jack Froese. Originally called The Mayors Wives' Tea, the annual Christmas celebration was designed to benefit the local Christmas Bureau and other charities. In 2019 the name was changed to expand the organization's reach and help more families in need. On behalf of the 84 Aldergrove students from families in need, who are taking home nutritious and easy-to-prepare Starfish Backpack meals, THANK YOU for Caring.

This is the fourth year that the knitting elves dedicated their spare time to helping Aldergrove kids in need weather the cold. Many thanks to Carol's group and to the hairdressing students at Aldergrove Senior Secondary for adding the special gifts to the holiday packs.

Garden Boxes for Meals on WheelsMeals on Wheels is over the moon at the prospect of being able to harvest fresh home-grown veggies right at their new location, the site of the former Milsean Shoppe on 272nd Street. Members of Aldergrove Rotary Club arranged the work parties that saw Meals on Wheels’ front entrance transformed into an array of garden boxes designed to add delicious fresh produce to the meals their kitchen prepares. Rushing to get planted in time for this summer’s season, Rotary volunteers pitched in to make this happen. First, the site was prepared with the expertise of Jason Froese’s prowess at the controls of his mini-excavator, and Robby Robinson who contributed a load of crushed gravel to level the area. |

Three SASSY Winners VisitSASSY (Service Above Self Student Youth) is a Program that recognizes and celebrates the incredible Youth in the Langley community. SASSY seeks to reward Langley students who have excelled in demonstrating outstanding leadership skills in school and/or the community. A joint venture of the four Rotary Clubs in Langley, the SASSY Program has awarded $87,000.00 in bursaries to deserving Langley students since its inception six years ago. This year, 37 exceptional young people applied for the honour of being SASSY recipients. On Friday May 27th, the club welcomed three of this year's SASSY Award Winners who described their SASSY experience, telling us of their leadership activities in the community and in their schools. Our guest speakers (L-R) were: Cassidy Buchanan, an Aldergrove resident attending the Brookswoods Soccer Academy; Evan Dyce also an Aldergrove resident, who is attending ACSS, and Daniel Lee from Walnut Grove It was a pleasure to meet three such accomplished young people with such promising futures. Gold Medal Olympian Speaks to RotaryGold Medal Olympian Lisa Roman, a member of Team Canada's Women's Eight Rowing team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, charmed and delighted Aldergrove Rotary members with her 50-minute address describing her eleven year run up to the Gold Medal podium moment at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. No stranger to competition, Lisa, who stands just under six feet tall has always had to overcome the fact that she was relatively short to be a rower. But she hasn’t let that deter her from her Olympic dream that was sparked when she made the national U23 team and won gold with the eight at the 2011 U23 World Championships.

Starfish Pasta Party a Great SuccessStarfish Pasta Party a Great Success
On November 28, 2015 the Aldergrove Rotary Club’s Starfish Pasta Party celebrated the generosity of local individuals and businesses who have supported the Aldergrove Starfish Backpack Program to date. Thanks to their donations, the Aldergrove Starfish Backpack Program is able to provide food for 50 hungry kids in three local schools with weekend food for the current September-to- June school year. At the Pasta Party over 100 people paid $20.00 each for a delicious Italian meal that was generously provided and prepared by Carlo Bonetti, owner of Bonetti Meats. Along with even more individual donations, silent and live auction activities added to the evening’s proceeds (and fun). At time of writing, the total income from the pasta party is $6,000.00 and climbing. Proceeds will be used to support hungry kids during the 2016-2017 school year. The cost to provide a Starfish Backpack full of weekend food for one child for one school year is $525.00. For more information on the Starfish Backpack Program and for details on how you can help feed hungry kids on weekends, visit www.aldergrovestarfish.ca
