Rotary 2000 received recognition for it's record of service to the community during the Ketchikan CHARR King Salmon Derby as a community service organization. Derby Director Michael Briggs thanked Rotary 2000 during the Awards Night Gathering at the Ted Ferry Civic Center on June 23, 2017. The CHARR King Salmon Derby provides youth scholarships in addition to providing funding to several community service organizations. There are four organizations manning the weigh stations. Each organization receives a check for $2500. That amounts to $10,000 going back into our community in addition to the scholarships. The Derby celebrated it's 70th anniversary this year, easily pre-dating statehood.
There were many in our club who covered more than one shift. Thank you to each one who helped support this great fundraiser for the club as well as helping make a difference in our community.

It was brought to the attention of President Elect Steve Boehlert that we sponsored the Petersburg Rotary club about 75 years ago.  At one point our clubs had a running competition in regard to weekly attendance - there is even an award!  Expect to see this friendly competition fired up in July...we need to earn this dandy little cup back!

Rotary was so much fun yesterday. First we had the pleasure of having a fellow Rotarian Matt Weaver of the Rotary Club of Tulare CA. He brought his niece and son to learn a little about an Alaskan Rotary Club. We also had a special guest, Patrick Monrean, Fred's brother. To top of an excellent afternoon of fellowship we got to see Kirsten's South African presentation as well as her West Coast Tour presentation. She did such a good job with her presentations even with some laptop, projector malfunctions. smiley   Sorry Kirsten!

We would like to invite all of you to help support Kirsten in her fundraising. The first is an opportunity for Rotary exchange students to do a West Coast tour of the United States. The second objective she is raising money for is her Shelter Box. Each exchange student is required to raise this money as part of their exchange. Any money she raises beyond the West Coast Tour will be applied to this. For more information on Shelter Box go to http://shelterbox.org/. Thanks to all that come out to support Kirsten and enjoy some great food.

Hello everyone

Just a quick note that I've started on a Clubrunner User Manual.  It is located on the main Rotary 2000 Clubrunner page under Download Documents on the right side of the page.  If you do not remember your login or password let me know and I'll get them to you.  If there is something in particular you would like to know how to do let me know and I'll let you know and update the manual.

KTN to ANC is $139 each way right now!! Can you share this with your Rotary Clubs?

Also... Alyeska hotel will fill up fast due to a movie they are filming the same time of our conference, so folks will want to book now. The only bad thing is they require full payment on a credit card at the time of booking.

Please pass the message to anyone interested in attending Dist Conference! Thanks

Also there is a discount code on the District 5010 Clubrunner site for the airline tickets.  Be sure to let the hotel know you are there for Conference to get the Rotary rate.

Merry Christmas to all.  Photos have been loaded in the albums.  The meeting this week was writing a poem, song, dedication, etc. to a selected fellow Rotarian.  Makes for a great time getting to know more about those who receive the gift and those that give it.  Added benefit is presents purchased for those recipients are for donation to Salvation Army to be given to children in the community.  It was a gift for everyone involved that will continue on.  Check the albums on Clubrunner or Facebook for more pictures to enjoy.

Reminder there is no weekly meeting December 23rd.  Christmas boxes at A&P on the morning of the 24th with distribution right after.  This is a make up for people that need it.  Next meeting is December 30th.

Vocational Service

Vocational Service, one of Rotary's Avenues of Service, encourages Rotarians to serve others through their professions and to practice high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations and inspire others in the process. Observed each October, Vocational Service Month spotlights Rotary club projects related to this avenue, offering an opportunity for clubs and districts to use their professional skills in service projects.
