Vocational Service Award

Our Club, a long time strong supporter of Vocational Service, has finally inaugurated a Vocational Service Award to be given to the organization or individual in our community who best exemplifies the Rotarian principles within their vocation or in developing vocational opportunities for others. We presented the First Award at our Club Meeting, Thursday, March 31st, 2011.
It was an easy decision for the Board as we unanimously selected the University of Alaska, Anchorage, Eagle River Campus to receive the first Vocational Service Award. The faculty and staff have made their campus the most successful one in the University system. Their focus on the needs of the students balanced with the needs of the businesses and employers in this area as well as the state has enabled them to develop highly successful programs that quite frequently lead directly to job placements. Their innovative approach and creative thinking has developed a business model that stands alone in the University system and its success is not only evident in their financial statements but is readily evident any evening you drive by their parking lot. Congratulations to Mike Melielo and all the faculty and staff at UAA Eagle River.
