  • Friday, October 2, at 6pm - To celebrate Martin's return and give him a chance to kick off his presidency we are having an Oktoberfest Party at Meg's house.  It will be a potluck so bring your favorite German dish.  Brad will supply the beer, he bought the pony keg at the chamber auction last week.  So there will be a fresh keg of beer from Glacier Brewhouse - don't miss out.
  • Saturday Oct. 3 at 10am - Highway Clean-up has been rescheduled for this day.  Some of us will be meeting at 8:45 for breakfast at Johann's first and then head over for clean-up.  We need as many people as possible to get it done quickly.
  • Mary Ann is looking for helpers for Most Improved Student Luncheons.  She spoke with Pizza Man and they are still willing to provide us the pizzas at the same discounted price.  Mirror Lake Middle School is October 26 from 10:45am - 1pm, Eagle River High School is October 27 at 10:20am, Chugiak High School on November 5 at 10:20am, and Gruening is still being scheduled.  Email Mary Ann at mapaulpt@gmail.com to let her know what dates work for you.

Lynne Lloyd gave a great program on Arctic Valley and the outdoor opportunites that exist there in the summer and winter.  Arctic Valley is run by the Anchorage Ski Club who Lynne works for as the Executive Director.  The website is www.skiarctic.com.  She gave a history of the club which has existed since 1937 and then talked about the recent improvements.  Summer activities/facilities up there include hiking trails, picking berries, a picnic area and even a cafe.  In the winter there is cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and a wireless connection in the lodge if you don't want to ski.  They also offer opportunities to volunteer so you can ski for free.  It sounds like a fun place to hang out in the summer and winter and it is not too crowded.  So check it out next time you feel like going for a drive.  The Anchorage Ski Club has their big fundraiser this weekend at the Alpenglow Lodge on September 26 at 6:30pm.  They had some great auction items.
