May 27 Meeting Recap
Posted by Tonya Gamble
One of our own, Frank Baker, was our guest speaker today and he showed us some great photos of our backyard playground.
Sandra and Tony Delucia were at today's meeting and it was great to see them. They have purchased a house in Kissimmee, Florida and plan to move down in September.
Katja made it to today's meeting, next week will be her last meeting and then she leaves next Friday for her West Coast Tour. She is looking forward to seeing a California beach.
Happy Buck Highlight: Martin was happy we had such a great Nature Center clean-up last Saturday. We had so many people that we were done in 2 hours instead of 3! The weather was fabulous along with the fellowship at Martha's after the clean-up. Thanks to everyone who participated: Jake, Martin, Mary Ann, Frank, the Bushnells, Bobby, Martha, the Gambles & Brad Boedecker needs to be recognized for excellent timing. He showed up just as we were finished!
Announcements:
Al Bowler announced that the Chamber still has openings for teams in their upcoming golf tourny at Moose Run on June 4. Contact the Chamber or Al if you are interested.
Board Meeting, this Tuesday, at Pizza Man. These have gotten quite fun now that there is pizza and beer involved!
We are still looking for Project Amigo volunteers for our March 5-13, 2011 trip to Colima, Mexico. Please let me know if you are interested.
Guest Speaker: Frank opened his presentation by showing us 2 slideshows, set to music, of photos that he has taken while hiking in Alaska's parks. The photos were gorgeous! Then he talked about the Chugach State Park specifically. The park is the 3rd largest in the US with almost 700 sq. miles. The park has lots to offer and something for everyone.
Frank recommended 2 books to learn more about great hiking trails in Southcentral Alaska: "50 Hikes in Alaska's Chugach State Park" and "55 Ways to the Wilderness".
He definitely got me inspired to get out and do more. There is so much right here in Eagle River.
Split the Pot:Sandra Delucia (of course) won split the pot!
