August 19th Luncheon

Another packed meeting both in attendance and agenda.
Lots of guests, I hope I get them right:
Greg "Tank" Miller joined us from Downtown. Greg is looking to change his home Club, so I hope we passed the audition.
Debbie Rinckey who is also looking to join our club.
Our Inbound, Arthur was with us as well as our Rebound Kate Frederick and her mother, Claire. Kate will speak with us about her year in Denmark soon.
Dan Saddler and Cathy Giessel attended and Frank brought a friend Mark Meyer.
Another guest was Spencer Bailly
Spencer is a recent West High Graduate who is on his way to Willamette College. Spencer was very involved in the Anchorage Youth Court while in school and remains a member of their board. His brief presentation was very impressive. He is trying to get the word out to Chugiak-Eagle River area students grades 7 through 12 to check into this program that is offered at Chugiak HS on Thursday evenings starting in late Sep. We are working to have a Youth Court Hearing conducted at one of our meetings in the future. Fascinating program and a truly impressive young man.
Happy Bucks started out with the announcement that Rotary International has approved our grant request! That means we have the money we need for the Literacy project to Colima Mexico in March. Now, we just need more participation.
Ray provided us another Historical Moment. This time he brought a photo album of when our club did a haunted house fundraiser. Looks like a ton of fun, but also 10 tons of work. Thanks Ray.
Dan Kendall, candidate for House District 18 was our speaker. Dan spoke a bit about his experience working for our community and shared some thoughts about his approach to business in Juneau if elected. He also spoke about his vision for a multi-use batting cage a Lions Park. He'd like to see several local groups get involved in making that happen.
Don't forget to vote Tuesday and then join us for our Board Meeting at Pizza Man at 7pm. Cathleen Calkin, a contributor to The Rotarian Magazine will join us.
