2001-02 - Sarah Oliver, President
A website for the club was created.  WHRC participated in the community's Multi-Cultural Day. Through donations and books, the club again supported Literature for All of Us, a local organization that organizes book groups for teen mothers. Andi Friedman was sponsored by WHRC as an Outbound Ambassadorial Scholar to Spain. The club again continued to sponsor the peace essay contest through New Trier Interact, awarded the annual President's scholarship to a local graduating senior through the Wilmette Youth Commission, and funded a vocational scholarship through Oakton Community College. Local groups were given $16,500 as a result of the club's fundraising efforts. The Gillson Park garden initiated by the club was renamed in honor of deceased Rotarian Cathy Pasek. The club funded a high school student's participation in the National Youth Leadership Conference in Wash. D.C., and again sent two students to RYLA. As in past years, WHRC also provided refreshments to families participating in the New Residents' Reception at the Village Hall. Rotarian Diane Teska served as Assistant Governor to District Gov. Jim Wolters. On June 23, our founder, Karen Kline, died of brain cancer. Europe's eradication of polio was announced, due in large measure to the efforts of Rotarians. Rotarians of the Year: Joan Hochschild and Walter Reed.
