1996-97 - Diane Teska, President

Karen Kline was honored with the R.I. Citation for Meritorious Service; as Governor, she successfully spearheaded an effort to engage every Club in the District in a Matching Grant project and was honored at the R.I. international convention in Scotland. Club members filled hundreds of hygiene kits to send to a camp for disadvantaged children in New Zealand. Warren Durbin was sponsored by the club as Ambassadorial Scholar to Spain; Rotarian Walter Reed served as his sponsor. Rotarian Jacquie McGuire served as Host Counselor to Ambassadorial Scholar Yih-Chyuan Chiou from Taiwan. Work began with a newly formed Interact Club at New Trier High School. Grants totaling $15,000 were distributed to local charities; other monies were distributed to the Brazil Sister Cities project. A $1000 scholarship was established at Oakton Community College, and two students were sent to RYLA. A President's Scholarship was inaugurated in Wilmette annually to honor club presidents and encourage youth to volunteer in their local community. A club brochure was written and distributed.
