On Wednesday, July 14 at 7:30 am, Elizabeth Novak and Rebecca Immanuel of Connections for the Homeless made an interesting and informative presentation to the Club. Liz and Becca provided an update of developments at Connections for the Homeless, and also included a discussion of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative of their organization. We are hopeful that we can continue to learn about ways to collaborate with Connections for the Homeless, and also learn from their efforts in implementing their DEI initiative.
July 14 Meeting
The next meeting of the Club will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 7:30 am at the Harbor Club. Meetings will continue to be held in hybrid form, so that members and guests can participate either in person and by Zoom. The link to the hybrid meeting will be emailed to members.
The meeting will be a Club Forum. Agenda items to be discussed include an overview of the Club budget and the most important considerations for the budget, the manner of conducting meetings (including a discussion of hybrid, Zoom and in-person meetings), the roles and responsibilities of committees, the Club's Community Conversation initiative and other initiatives relating to new membership.
Ongoing Initiatives
One of the most important ongoing initiatives of the Club is the continued roll-out and improvement of "Community Conversations." Each Community Conversation provides an opportunity for one or more community leaders to provide an update of important current developments within the community. The Community Conversations also present an opportunity for those in attendance to ask questions and offer comments. Interested members of the community are invited to join us.
The Club will be holding Community Conversations on the last Wednesday of each month at 7:30 am at the Harbor Club in Gillson Park.
Our first Community Conversation was held on June 30, and featured Steve Wilson, Executive Director of the Wilmette Park District. Our next presenter will be Anthony Austin, Director of the Wilmette Public Library. Anthony will provide an update of new developments, including how the Library has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic and new programs to reach out to the community. On August 25 John Jacoby is scheduled to speak about his new book Wilmette at 150.
