Rotary Clubs across the United States and Guatemala have made major contributions to Ak'Tenamit, but members of 30 Rotary Clubs from district 6440, in northern Illinois, deserve extra praise.  During the past three years, dozens of Rotarians from that district have participated in work brigades at Ak'Tenamit that have made contributions ranging from teaching English to painting, screening and building bunk beds for the student dorms.  Last February, two teams of 25 Rotarians each worked alongside students to build a much-needed library.  After working for days on construction in the tropical heat, the Rotarians delivered water filters that they'd brought with them to families in a nearby village.  Their dedication to service above self is an inspiration to students and staff alike.

Approximately 50 Rotarians plan to return to Ak'Tenamit.  If this kind of adventure sounds interesting to you and your club, please contact Mary Ellen at 561-747-9790, and check out District 6440 Guatemalan Service Project web site: http://www.aktenamit.org/rotary/.
