Puran brought to Manuel's farewell party a rice and lentil dish that was a rave. Puran says: I do not cook according to recipes, so I have to guess. I think it may feed 4 people.
One cup of Basmati Rice One cup of raw lentils 1 cup raisons 6 table spoon canola oil 2-4 spoonful of salt
Wash and soak rice 2 hours before cooking. Bring to boil a big pan of water and 1 table spoon of salt (like spaghetti). Drain and gently put the rice in boiling salt water. Cook on high heat for 3-5 minutes. Drain the rice in a colander, rinse gently with cold water.
Saute the raisin in the oil- about 2 minutes
Cook the lentils until done.

Put one layer rice in a non-stick pan, one layer raisins, one lentils--repeat until all finished.
Pour 1/4 cup hot water and 2 spoons of oil on top. Simmer 5 minutes on medium heat, 30 minutes on low heat. When you see steam coming out of pan - your rice is done.
Some may add cooked meat or poultry if you wish, but I did not add meat.
