I retired early 14 yrs ago from The Mather Fdn, now Mather Lifeways.  I’d served as Director of Communications, doing a lot of writing, editing, photography…and schmoozing in the community.   Before that, I did much the same for Evanston’s School District 65, and also worked in journalism and bank marketing.

I’ll never live long enough to read all the books I want to read, or travel to all the places I want to see!  Bob and I have enjoyed for years a book group at the Mitchell Indian Museum…it’s humbling to learn all the things we didn’t know about Native Americans.   We also love to travel…just returned from a memorable trip to over a dozen picturesque Bohemian villages, led by a genealogist researcher/guide, ferreting out the homes and lands of Bob’s ancestors.  (Yes, we’re both enjoying genealogical research, too!)

Our much-beloved Founder, Karen Kline, was my sponsor.  She literally grabbed the back of my collar at a District Conference 22 yrs ago—Bob was a Rotarian—and TOLD me, “You WILL be joining our new club!”

My most memorable experience in Rotary was serving as Team Leader to New Zealand and Fiji, in 1994, for a Group Study Exchange.  I’ve rarely worked so hard, before, during, and after our trip, or enjoyed it more!  And the enduring friendships, both with team members and Kiwis, are cherished.

What folks don’t know?  Probably that I led a group of 27 Evanston Chamber of Commerce members to Russia on a people-to-people trip in 1990, after traveling there the year before to learn that voluntary job.

Family?  Three adult children, seven grandchildren.  Keeps me busy!     Diane
