Ending Polio Now: Rotary's Crucial Role in Eradicating Polio

Rotary International has been instrumental in the global effort to eradicate polio. Their program, PolioPlus, has raised millions of dollars to fund vaccination campaigns, research, and advocacy. Rotary members actively volunteer in high-risk areas, bridging the gap between vaccines and children. Their advocacy efforts have helped keep polio a top global health priority.

With their unwavering dedication, Rotary has significantly accelerated progress towards the near-eradication of polio, which now remains endemic in only two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Rotary's legacy in this fight demonstrates the collective impact of organizations and individuals with a shared purpose. Together, we move closer to a world where no child suffers from polio.

VIRTUAL CLASSIC 50TH BIRTHDAY BASH

WITH JUST TWO DAYS LEFT UNTIL THE CLUB'S CLASSIC 50TH BIRTHDAY BASH EVERYTHING CHANGED
What had been planned for our gala evening on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Schaumburg Marriott became the first ever VIRTUAL CLASSIC!

A small team gathered in a meeting room at the Marriott on Friday, March 13th to design a whole new event when on Thursday it had became obvious that it was neither prudent nor responsible to bring 350+ people together in a ballroom that Saturday.  A plan was sketched out and tasks were assigned -- so much to do in less than 24 hours!

Then came Saturday.  That dedicated team gathered again and began production of the live Facebook stream of the reinvented Classic program.  The meeting room became the Rotary studio with all the trimings.  While this was going on, Marriott chefs prepared the 350 meals in the afternoon, so that Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Rotarians could deliver the food to some of the club's partner agencies to be provided to people in need in the community.  The challenge of what to do with all the food that had already been purchased by the hotel was handled and we were on to the next challenge.

Gradually the few other players in this program arrived in full 1969 attire, practiced and prepared for the evening's adventure.  Then it was "show time."  Smaller groups gathered in various homes around the community to participate virtually in the event.  The auction was held with bidding being done electronically from near and far, the videos were shown and presentations made. The grand prize drawing capped off the night.  The event may have been different that what had been planned, but the mission was the same: fun, fellowship and fund-raising for the many charitable projects next year.
The recording of this telecast can be found on our Facebook page.  Behind the scenes photos from the Marriott "sound stage" are in the Photo Album on our Website Home Page.

We owe a great deal to our generous sponsors listed below, as well as to those whose names can be found in the photos on this website .  Thank you to all who contributed to the success of this first ever VIRTUAL CLASSIC -- 1969, 21st Century Style!!!!

Rotary at Work in the Community

The following thank you message was received by the Rotary Club of Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates

Thank You Schaumburg/HE Rotary
for supporting CAC’s 5K !

Wow! We can’t believe how positive this year’s Champions for Children 5K Run/Walk was. Together we raised $24,000 and had 167 people register for the event!

The money raised from our Champions for Children 5K directly helps children in the community who have suffered physical and sexual abuse. These children find a safe place to begin healing from their past trauma once they walk through the doors of CAC.

Your support truly makes a difference. Thanks to you, the children who seek CAC’s services can find their smiles again.

We hope to see you next year!
