Richmond-Spring Grove Area (RSGA) Rotary participated in World Cleanup Day on September 19, 2020.
On Saturday, September 19 of the Richmond-Spring Grove Area (RSGA) Rotary took part in a World Cleanup Day event to clean up waterways with Friends of the Fox and Environmental Defenders of McHenry County.
Starting at 9:00 AM, a total of 13 people worked for two hours cleaning up Boone Creek on both sides from where the bike trail bridge crosses the stream up to Highway 120. That’s a total of 26 man-hours.
How much trash could there be? In just two hours, the group picked up 300 pounds of trash and 11 pounds of recyclables. The three shopping carts accounted for 150 pounds of the trash, with all kinds of little things accounting for the other 150 pounds.
What’s next? One of the five avenues of service for Rotarians is Community Service. RSGA Rotary continues to look for ways to show our commitment to this avenue of service. We plan to do another cleanup on the stream next Spring with the Boone/Dutch Creek Watersheds Coalition.
