John will discuss his journey as a liver recipient and the impact organ and tissue donation can have.  There is an ongoing shortage of available organs vs the demand for those awaiting transplant.  Individually we can make a profound difference and together we can resolve this problem.   We will hear about John's transplant journey and learn about Organ Transplant Support and the services they provide to community.

About John Hickey

John is the President of Organ Transplant Support, Inc., a support organization dedicated to helping transplant patients and their families.  John received a living donor liver transplant at the University of chicago in 2021 from his niece, Mary.  John is the forever grateful recipient of a living donor, liver transplant. He received his liver from his niece, Mary, in 2021 at the University of Chicago, and has been a member of Organ Transplant Support (OTS) since 2021. John received support from the OTS peer mentor program before his transplant, and has been a peer mentor in the program to help others since his transplant. He has been an active leader in other non-profit organizations since 2009, including roles as president of PFLAG DuPage, and the PFLAG Council of Northern Illinois. John retired after 35 years in a variety of Operations and Supply Chain management roles in the Defense Industry. After nearly 38 year residing in Naperville, IL, John and his wife Mary Ann recently moved to Aurora, IL. They are the parents of two young adults, living in the Chicago area, and they have one grandchild.
