What Are Other Clubs Doing...
The Rotary Club of Guiguinto Bloomingdales
The Rotary Club of Guiguinto Bloomingdales transformed the Bahay Pangarap Women's Center backyard into an organic vegetable garden by providing garden soil, vermicast, rice hulls and other gardening tools. The Club also organized a seminar and workshop, with a speaker from the Municipal Agriculture Office-Guiguinto to teach the girls on how to grow and maintain the sustainable vegetable garden organically. This activity included a hands-on activity for the girls in making their own fermented fertilizer, preparing the soil, and actual transplanting of seedlings. By teaching these skills, the Rotary Club of Guiguinto Bloomingdales responds to Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta’s call to action to empower girls.

The 14 girls in Bahay Pangarap, who are victims of battery, sexual abuse or exploitation, learned to boost their self-esteem, engagement with others as well as their physical & sensory development through the project.
Message from Lyle
Dear Fellow Rotarians, Thought I'd remind you of two upcoming deadlines:

1.  Know someone who would be a great District 6440 Governor?  The deadline for nominations for District Governor for Rotary Year 2024-2025 is midnight, Monday September 6th.  Information for those interested, including the Nomination Form and instructions, is available on the District Website by clicking here.  The Nomination Committee, which I chair and which consists of past club presidents, current or past club secretaries, Past District Governors, and members-at-large, will interview candidates on the evening of Monday, September 13th, beginning at approximately 7:00PM.

2.  It's not too late to register for the District Leadership Academy.  This  online program, lasting just over six months, gives participants a broad understanding of how Rotary works and how they can be more effective in their Club and in the District.  Modules on Communications, Public Image, Youth Service, Organization, and The Rotary Foundation are facilitated by experts from D6440, all of whom are DLA grads.  Join the 19 already enrolled for this year's program.  Download the application from the District Website, and read more About the Academy at this link.  And remember: you can have as many members from your club enroll for a single charge of $100.  You'll find that the buddy system works well for DLA, and together you'll move your club forward.

Contact me if you have questions about either opportunity!
