Please join Rotary at the North Suburban YMCA's Trunk or Treat event Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm rain or shine.
The event will take place in the YMCA parking lot at 2705 Techny Road, Northbrook. Our club will have 2 decorated cars with trunks full of treats!
We will also have a "bozo buckets" game going on between the cars.
Please join us to pass out candy, help run the buckets game and/or share in the community fun with your fellow Rotarians!!! We will be wearing our cool Rotary vests which could double as a construction worker costumes ;)
If you have a hard hat or work belt and boots, wear them and get into the spirit of Halloween!! We are Rotarians hard at work after all!

SAVE THE DATE!! On Tuesday, October 24, there will be no noon Northbrook Rotary lunch meeting. Instead, we will meet to socialize in our private Albert party room from 5:30 to 7:30 that evening at Hackney’s on Lake, 1514 E. Lake Ave, Glenview.
Menu options will include: The Famous Hackneyburger, Broiled chicken breast on toasted bun, Chicken Caesar salad, The Hackney Reuben, fish, gluten-free and vegetarian options; plus Hackney fries, unlimited soft drinks and a chocolate ice cream sundae dessert.
Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
As always, you are encouraged to sponsor guests. This will be a really fun event!

END POLIO NOW CLUB HONOR
Join us at the Village of Northbrook to get the WORLD POLIO DAY Proclamation. This is a continuation of Rotary educating the community about our primary mission.
From End Polio Now: Districts around the world are launching PolioPlus societies or reinvigorating their current ones, and the response has been amazing and positive. This initiative allows each district to establish criteria for membership in their society, including a minimum recurring gift, and decide on their own recognition awards and marketing materials.
The Rotary Foundation Trustees are giving districts flexibility to implement this fundraising approach for the PolioPlus Fund in ways that work best in their own regions. A district that establishes a PolioPlus Society is emphasizing the importance of reliable and recurring donations to fulfill our promise to the children of the world.
Recently, news of a fifth case of polio this year was reported in Afghanistan. Whenever I hear the term case, I cannot think of it as a number or a fact — instead, I immediately think about the child. This child (not this case) will now live with polio forever, and their family will now have to support that child in ways they could never imagine.
To me, we should always think about the child, rather than the case number. We need to remember our promise to save each child from this devasting disease. This fifth child may have been a vaccine away from being protected. So we cannot be discouraged in our effort to end polio. A PolioPlus Society is a way to reinvigorate this commitment in your district, club, and members. It takes your small gift to PolioPlus each year to keep making progress toward our top humanitarian priority: eradicating polio.

Rotary statement on the conflict in Israel and Gaza
Recognizing there has been protracted suffering in the long history of conflict between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza, Rotary International urges all parties to seek avenues to peace.
At the same time, we unequivocally condemn the horrific attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians and are appalled at the number of people who have been injured, killed, and kidnapped.
As the war between Israel and Hamas intensifies, we remain deeply concerned about the potential for further escalation as well as the loss of life and the humanitarian crisis that is occurring in Gaza. We denounce the violence against innocent civilians and support upholding international humanitarian law.
Peacebuilding is both a cornerstone of Rotary’s mission and one of our areas of focus. At our core, Rotary is a common ground for people to come together – across nationalities and religions, cultures and histories – and connect around their shared belief in a better tomorrow. That connection is what humanizes us in times of conflict and builds a foundation for lasting peace.
Rotary remains committed to working with our members, partners, and communities to find long-term, sustainable solutions that support peace and development in the region and elsewhere.
