IT’S COAT OFF YOUR BACK GEAR UP TIME

  
Sandy Frum met with Rick Rosenfeld to plan the scope the 2023 Annual Coat off your Back drive.  Here is their report. Please note there are some details being worked out -and are fluid at this point – but please put this on your volunteering radar.
 
Here are some notes and minor action items.  Rick (who will again be the overall leader of the event) will provide more details as we need it. He will be using his RosenfeldGroup.com e-mail address for Coat off your Back.  Like many members – using multiple emails work vs personal etc. helps to segregate info and may require using an event related subject line-to help keep things flowing!
 
  1. Timing.  This is the most significant change.  November 1 to December 15 Based on feedback from the recipient charities, ending the coat drive after the holidays is too far into the cold season.  It also creates crunches for volunteers who aren’t as readily available during Christmas week.  
  2. Clubs involved: “I want to grow this responsibly.  Last year was mostly Northbrook and the two Glenview Clubs.  Deerfield mostly did their own thing.  GBS Interact was negligibly involved, but their new officers seem highly enthusiastic.” 
Under consideration:
  1. Northbrook, Glenview, Glenview Sunrise.  All confirmed.
  2. Deerfield likely to be more integrated this year
  3. GBS Interact likely to be more involved.
  4. Wheeling – I will discuss via Jim Bradley and Tamiye Meehan.
  5. Winnetka/Northfield – You mentioned this to me.  Do you want them involved this year?  Does this conflict with Rich Lalley’s Operation Warm project?
  6. Anyone else?  Otherwise I am very happy with the above.
  7. Roles.
    1. Overall coordinator – Rick Rosenfeld, Glenview Sunrise
    2. Work with the club coordinators.
    3. Work with the charities
    4. Work with Two Men and a Truck
    5. Liaise with Holy Cross and Deerfield Free Store regarding sorting
  8. Club level coordinator – including Glenview Sunrise – so Rick has single point of contact at each club.
    1. Gary Moriello – NB coordinator
  9. Identify volunteers and manage volunteer tasks/schedules
  10. Source locations within the community for barrel storage.
  11. Coordinate barrel drop offs and pickups at start and end of project
  12. Club volunteers (number of volunteers depend on number of and location of barrels) - 
  13. Barrel clearing (1x to 2x weekly) and dropoff at Holy Cross Deerfield (1x weekly)
  14. Sorting (Saturdays).   Last year this was almost all Glenview Noon.  I would like to see members from each club be part of the process, fostering cross-club interaction.
  15. Distribution – Hoping this will be Two Men and a Truck pro bono again.
  16. Publicity – Kathi Quinn will head up and work with the other clubs PI’s to coordinate across our various communities and  village/town government offices. 
  17. General flow, once we get going.  This gets coats from individual donor to recipient charity in 4 to 11 days.
  18. Barrel clearing (Monday-Thursday as needed)
  19. Coat drop off in Deerfield (Thursday afternoon or early Saturday morning)
  20. Coat sorting and boxing (Saturday morning)
  21. Coat distribution to charities (Monday)
 
This is a great event to leverage membership opportunities! Invite people to participate and help! We hope NB Satellite will join in too. Please work with Rick, and our club coordinator Gary.
