POLIO UPDATE 
No new Wild Polio cases reported this week.  We are now 8 weeks since the most recent reported Wild Polio Case - on 2/20/23 in Pakistan. 
 
What is that Polio Picture?  World Immunization Week - April 24-30, join us in advocating for polio eradication and the importance of vaccines. As one of the greatest advances of modern medicine, vaccines are safe, effective, and save millions of lives each year. Our progress in the fight to end polio is proof that vaccines work.  
 
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative estimates that the polio vaccine has saved more than 20 million children around the world from paralysis. However, approximately 12.5 million children are totally unvaccinated. They are known as zero-dose children, and vaccinating them is critical to stopping polio for good. We must continue vaccinating the world’s children against polio, because polio anywhere is a threat everywhere.

Pakistan No new Wild Polio cases reported this week. One Wild Polio case reported in 2023.  Twenty Wild Polio cases reported in 2022.   The most recent case had an onset of paralysis on 2/20/23.  No WPV1 Samples and no cVDPV2 Positive Environmental Samples were reported this week in Pakistan. 
Afghanistan No new Wild Polio cases reported this week.  No Wild Polio cases reported in 2023.  Two Wild Polio Cases reported in 2022 .   The most recent case had an onset of paralysis on 8/29/22. Three WPV1 Samples and no cVDPV2 Positive Environmental Samples were reported this week in Afghanistan.

Miss a meeting - miss a lot! Happy 94th Birthday to our own Judy Warchol. She is a long time member, and our club's first women president! The club celebrated her last week.
 
We also had author Neil Steinberg speak, and celebrated Banana Day - with a tutorial on how to properly peel a banana. Fun all around!
