Our next presentation for Project Biodiversity+ World Rivers Day Series #13 is next Wednesday November 3, 2021 – (9:00am CDT; 9:00am Evanston) meeting #42. Juan Ernesto Benítez Valle will lead the presentation with fellow Rotarians on Nevado de Toluca: factory of water, factory of life.
Project Biodiversity+ Program #42: Nevado de Toluca: factory of water, factory of life
The Lerma River-Lake Chapala basin is considered by the federal government of Mexico to be the most important watershed in the country. With its major tributaries, the Laja, Apaseo and Turbio, the Lerma constitutes Mexico's largest river system. In this watershed is the stratovolcano Nevado de Toluca and the world heritage site, the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve.
Ernesto Benítez and Rotarians from clubs in the Lerma River basin will present the endeavors of Rotary in the reforestation projects in Nevado de Toluca, the Sierra Morelos Park forestation, their restoration efforts along the Lerma River and its wetlands, and cleaning the canal insurgent’s wetlands. Those who will be presenting will be members of various Rotary clubs united by the Nevado de Toluca and the Lerma River.
Ernesto’s Bio: Juan Ernesto Benítez Valle completed his professional studies at the Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico and at the Faculty of Accounting and Administration of this same Institution. He has a broad career in Rotary, presiding over the Rotaract Club and Rotary Club of Metepec on several occasions; He has served as Assistant Governor and Assistant Governor Coordinator; He has participated as District Director of Protocol in four terms; in 2011 he led the Study Group Exchange Team (IGE) in Missouri and served as District Secretary. In the year 2012-2013 he served as Governor of District 4170; from 2014 to 2016 he served as President of the United Rotary Fund of Mexico, A. C. In the 2018-2019 Rotary year, he served as Advisor to the Public Image Coordination for Area 25A, Chair of the RYLA program for District 4170, and Chair of the Board of Governors for District 4170. He is currently Editor of the Rotary Magazine in Mexico, Chair of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program of District 4170 and Founding President of “Holística”, a company dedicated to Empowerment for Human Development, as well as Training and Consulting to the Public Sector and Private.
