Welcome to the October Newscope. Your patience has been appreciated as we are transitioning committees!  Newscope will be published monthly, with periodic updates!  Newscope content will include summaries of our overall month of events and initiatives provided by board and committee heads.

GUEST SPEAKERS:
On October 8th, Beverly & Gary Moriello shared their 29 year journey with the Operation Santa Clause project tge former educators founded.  Bev shared a number of heartbreaking stats about literacy in the USA and Illinois. The program entails a couple of schools in under-served areas where the gift of a book can be life changing. Each child creates a list of books for their "wish list" and donors buy the books and wrap them up. The Operation Santa teams delivers the books to the children at a festive school event. Donations are appreciated.
On October 1st,  our guest speaker was Kevin Kuhn, Volunteer Coordinator, Cook County Forest Preserves (CCFP). In addition to catching us up on local initiatives, he provided maps, informative booklets and addressed opportunities for volunteering and attending events.

The Forest Preserves encompass approximately 68,000 acres of open space within the urban surroundings of Chicago. It contains facilities for recreation, as well as a zoo and a botanic garden.
