Saturday, September 11th will be the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. This event changed not only the USA, but the world. As Rotarians, an aftermath of any tragedy, can be a call to action. See what the Rotary Club of New York did. Additionally, there is content from the history channel that will be featuring a number of documentaries next weekend.

2001-2002 was a year we will never forget. Our great City of New York was viciously attacked, and with it a sense of security that we have always taken for granted. But, we found a new sense of security within the "Rotary World." Our fellow club members came together, as a solid team, to address this unprecedented challenge, and support each other. First Person Account of 9/11 by Rabbi Melman
Rabbi Melman is originally from Toronto where he graduated from York University with a BA in Judaic Studies. He attended The Jewish Theological Seminary where he received his ordination in May, 2002. While at JTS, Rabbi Melman taught Hebrew School and Hebrew High School at Or Zarua, a Conservative synagogue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and served as a student chaplain with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).
Rabbi Melman was serving as a student chaplain with the New York Fire Department (FDNY) when 9/11 changed the world. He will share some of his experiences from Ground Zero during that tumultuous time and describe how it felt to stand on top of the Twin Towers.

From the History Channel: “On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which triggered major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defined the presidency of George W. Bush.”
