Helen Rivkin's Rotary Journey
Last week we heard Rotarian Helen Rivkin share her story about how she became a Rotarian. Like many, her path seemed to follow a spouse who was a Rotarian. But if you look deeper you will see that the underlying spirit of Helen –is service above self – through and through!
“I have been a Rotarian since June 25, 2016, my official join date. However, I participated in numerous activities and service projects before that. Prior to my official "join date", I had traveled twice with Northbrook Rotary to Guatemala. Additionally, along with other Rotarians, I participated in two NIDs (Polio National Immunization Days)-one in India, the other in Nigeria. There are two ideas that resonate with me as being a Rotarian. The first is part of the Four Way Test--Is it fair to all concerned? Secondly, because Rotary is a worldwide organization with links to many Rotarians internationally and locally, I have come to think of Rotarians as "Fixers". We are problem solvers. We have the ability to make a difference!”
Please watch her on our club meeting Facebook live video – then use the links below to read Helen’s blogs that she wrote for the 2 Polio National Immunization Day trips to India (2012) and Nigeria (2013).
She brings her experience to life about this unforgettable journey that saved lives and changed hers! Thank Helen – for being a terrific Rotarian!
