We celebrate Rosemary Mukui Nzunza, an immunization expert at the Center for Virus Research at the Kenya Medical Research Institute, who believes deeply that women in science should have the chance to go as far as they dream. As she finishes up her PhD in Molecular Medicine, Rosemary monitors lab work and biosafety, testing samples with her team for detections of polio, measles, and rubella to help protect children from the devastating impacts of preventable disease. Rosemary’s work is setting an example and showing other women and girls that they too can stand at the forefront of science. Malawi - A year since Malawi confirmed its first case of wild poliovirus type 1 in 30 years ( a case originating in Pakistan), more than 33 million children across five southern African countries have been vaccinated against the virus, with over 80 million vaccine doses administered over the past year.
