Coat Off Your Back Update

Hello from Boston!!
Erin Dubin, co-lead at the Free Store, covered for me today.  The regular crew from Glenview Noon sorted this morning – 131 coats!!  That’s double last week’s.  That brings the total to 477 winter coats.  These will be divided between World Relief and Connections for the Homeless on Monday.
I will send out info in a couple of days on the pre-Christmas drop-offs, but the options likely will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. (unless Debbie needs a different time), Thursday at 3 p.m., or custom discussion with me.
Cheers,  Rick

Hi all, thank to the “barrel crew” for dropping off today at Holy Cross.  We are set for the Glenview crew to sort on Saturday morning, with Erin from the Free Store substituting for me as I head off to New York tomorrow morning.   Heads up that the haul this week was HUGE.  I’m guessing 125 winter coats, compared to last week’s 65.    I think the winning variables this week included – John Howard had a big haul from either Weathermakers (which gets coats from a synagogue) or Orange Theory (which Kathi has been promoting to moms’ groups) – Elke had coats this week after a dry week last time – and we got the first coats from Glenview Ace Hardware and Tennis Center.   We also got coats from Park District via either D225 or D28 – not sure which – but thank you Sandy for facilitating this.
HELP NEEDED – hopefully an easy ask.  We are about 10 large boxes short of what we will need on Saturday morning.  If any of you have larger Amazon or other boxes (similar in size to the blue Lowe’s box in the left of the photo – or larger – if you might be able to get them to Holy Cross on Saturday at 9 a.m. it would be amazing.   Maybe someone can ask Ron Bernardi if he has any?   It is OK if they are broken down already.  We have packing tape and can rebuild them – we can make them bigger/stronger/faster (sorry for the Lee Majors/Six Million Dollar Man humor 😊).    If we get more than 10 empties, we will be ahead of the game for the final sort.
Sorted coats on Monday will go to World Relief and Connections for the Homeless.  I might set aside some for PADS if we have tons.
I will send later info about the final week – Week 6 – which will be sorted and packed after Christmas.  I will customize dropoff times with John, Brian (who is also covering for Elke), Gary, and Debbie (who I know will be dropping off on Wednesday).  I will also share details about the barrel pick up, which will be on Tuesday 12/27.   Any straggler coats in the bins will be picked up that day as well.
