Political-Military Affairs Officer at U.S. Department of State

Stephen Sanders, a career Foreign Service Officer, currently serves in the State Department’s Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs where he covers China political-military affairs issues.  Prior to this assignment he completed a tour in Cairo in the Consular Section and as Staff Assistant to the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt.  He was previously a Consular Officer in Shanghai.  Before joining the Foreign Service, Sanders worked as an Assistant District Attorney in the New Orleans area and as a Teach for America teacher in New York City.  Originally from San Diego, California, Steve holds a BA in History and Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a law degree from Tulane University. He speaks five languages.
