PRESIDENTS AND HIGHLIGHTS  

This history is a work in progress - there are many additional highlights of "Service Above Self" that are still to be researched and recorded.

 

1965 - 1966            Norman E. Watson

§         The first Northbrook Rotary Club President served as president of the club for a second time. His first term was in 1944-45 as the president of the Deerfield-Northbrook Rotary Club.

§         A joint Northbrook and Deerfield Rotary project to benefit the Christian Industrial League was launched. Chet Bloden of Northbrook and Art Wolter of Deerfield headed the used-clothing drive for many years.

  • Groundbreaking ceremonies for the North Suburban YMCA building on Techny Road were held  in December 1967. Six years before, the Deerfield-Northbrook Rotary Club had spearheaded and financed the study leading to the creation of the "Y." A total of $7,000 was donated for the initial development, and later the club donated a pool lift for handicapped swimmers. The "Y" has been a beneficiary of club fund-raising efforts throughout the years.
