During the fall of 2021 and the spring of 2022, our Rotary Club participated in planting over 250 pollinator plants in Hawthorn Woods. We completed plantings in every cul de sac in the community and added to their preserves. Our club also assumed the lead role in collaborating with 5 other rotary clubs resulting in the planting of over 2,000 pollinator plants from Hawthorn Woods to as far west as Huntley and Woodstock.
In addition to the plantings, we also cleared out invasive species including primarily Buckthorn and Honeysuckle in the winter and Teasel in the summer. Native plants and trees include pollinators and are a critical area of biodiversity that is under threat and in need of everyone’s support.
Thank you Rotarians and all our volunteers and partners and special thanks to the Village of Hawthorn Woods!
