Impromptu Speaking Competition
As scheduled, the Rotary Club of Subic in the Philippines conducted the competition, dubbed as "Voice of Our Youth", during its October 7, 2010 meeting. This is the first stage (club level), where the top two winners
will compete in the next level (cluster level, to be held on Monday,
Oct. 11), and so on until the district level winners will meet in the grand finals (national level).
There were 7 high schools from Subic and the two neighboring towns represented in yesterday's competition. And the event was
well attended (30 Rotarians, 6 Rotaractors, and 38 guests). The top 3 speakers received P 5,000.00 (USD 114), 3,000.00, and
2,000.00, respectively, while everyone else was given P500 as
consolation prize. All the contestants also received a certificate of
appreciation. Snacks were also served to all attendees. In total, we spent around P 18,000.00 for this project. But it was good
we were able to solicit enough to defray all the expenses incurred.
