Christina Smith, Amanda Sarrol, Zachary Rogers, and Alexis Jones each, received $500 scholarships from Rotarian, James Drendel, and gifts from the Rotary Club of Huntley, at a celebration breakfast with the students and families, April 30th at Village Inn Restaurant on the square in Huntley.

Community service was a strong consideration in the selection of all five students whose fields of studies range from Business, Legal studies, and Physical Therapy to Pre-Med. Each student spoke enthusiastically about their study choice and some plan to return to a Rotary meeting next summer to give a follow-up report on their progress. Zachary Rogers said he wanted to be a doctor all his life, remembering wearing a doctor’s mask before entering kindergarten. Amanda Sarrol, along with the others, who attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) said RYLA training taught her “Service promotes purpose within.” Huntley Rotary president, Jim Uszler, thanked everyone for attending and supporting the Rotary events that help fund the scholarship program as well as projects to support community projects.
