Present:  Barb Oilschlager, Betty Fallos, Jim Franson, Mike Kukulski, Don Mobley, Lynne Reynolds

Barb called the meeting to order and began with a discussion of using Club funds to provide additional scholarships (beyond those funded by the District) to promising students.  These additional scholarships would not have to be limited to community college or trade school scholarships as are the ones funded by the District.  It will be suggested to the membership, that at the beginning of the new Rotary year we offer to fund 3-4 scholarships to promising students for any level of higher education.  Further, these scholarships should be able to be refunded each year until the degree or certificate is earned.  This would require a monitoring of student achievement/progress each year.  This will be brought to the next Club Assembly meeting on May 12 for discussion and vote.

The next discussion centered on Micro Finance and providing funds for micro loans.  It was suggested that we begin small and then see if we want to continue our participation and increase the funding each year.  Jim Franson will take the lead on this initiative.  The suggestion is for $500.00 to be put into next year's budget to provide Micro Loans.  This will be presented to the membership on May 12.

Next the subject of funding Rotary signs to be placed at various Grayslake locations was discussed.  There are 3 donations or promised donations from club members at this time.  It was decided that the Club should fund six (6) signs.  A deadline of May 16 for contributing to Rotary signage was set.  Whatever difference between what is donated and what is needed to pay for the signs will be made up by the Club.  Chief Herzog will be asked to go ahead and order six (6) signs.

The final discussion centered on Grayslake Days, August 14-17, 2008.  Betty Fallos will spearhead the manning of Bingo night.  The Club will fund various "do-dads" ("Post-it Notes", key chains, pens, etc.) with the Rotary Club emblem  to hand out at the event.  This will be brought to the membership on May 12 along with a discussion of whether or not to walk in the parade.

The meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Lynne Reynolds, Secretary Elect
