Meeting of October 12, 2014:
- Apart from our main speakers we had one guest, Gaj Sivandran, who is a professor at Loyola
- For the fourth time Brian King received the Paul Harris Fellow recognition, which acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of US$1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
- Paul Larson spoke about the "Dinner with Nice People" events that he, Karen Kring, and Dianne Claussen have organized. He explained that they are an opportunity for Rotarians and others to come together, and enjoy a good meal and good company.
- Our Sergeant at Arms for the meeting was Ada Kahn, who in place of a trivia challenge offered lighthearted Halloween jokes (and the entire room laughed at every one of them).
- Anne Sills, president of the Evanston Food Exchange, joined us as our speaker. She shared great details about efforts under way in Evanston to "create a healthy and sustainable food community that benefits all Evanstonians" -- as the Food Exchange mission explains. Anne talked about growing more food in Evanston through hydroponics and other formats, and about many successful efforts under way. She proposed that Evanston is a well-primed community for more urban farming and mechanisms make our community greener and more fuel efficient -- such as composting and using compost as a source of energy production.
