Welcome to our new members!

Please say hello to our newest members: Adrian Dortch, Owner, Dortch Wellness; Jane Lawicki, Director, External & Public Relations, Rotary International; Mark Lowry, Director, Operations & Administration, Rotary International; and Elio Romero, Owner of Chef’s Station Restaurant. Our new members will be formally inducted during our April 2 meeting -- please be sure to attend that day to welcome them!

Reminder: Our meeting this week is Wednesday night!

Our club meeting this week will be the EVENING Rotary program on Wednesday, March 25, featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist John H. White. This meeting requires reservations and is completely full. If you have reserved space, we will see you at the Rotary International Auditorium that night. White’s presentation, on “Peace and the Power of Photography,” will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Rotary International auditorium and a short reception with refreshments will follow the event. Mr. White’s presentation will be on “Peace and the Power of Photography.”

Other Club News

 

  • Thanks, Kat Eiff and club volunteers, for an outstanding hands-on service project at Peer Services on Thursday, March 19! Peer Services, which offers substance-abuse prevention, education and recovery services, was extremely grateful for the work of our 12 club volunteers, who helped “stuff and stamp” a large mailing for the agency. To keep things lively during our work, an impromptu joke-telling competition was held and some classic lines were delivered! Our hands-on service projects are a big part of our new effort to reach out with more impact into the community -- please sign up when you have the chance. It’s also a great way to get to know your fellow clubmates.

  • Many of you may have heard that the Giordano’s Pizza in Evanston has closed. Giordano’s was going to be the site of this year’s PizzaFest, so we are in the process of considering our options. We will keep you apprised.

 

  • Dont’ miss the free Rotary International event: “Tap Into Lake Michigan: A Local Perspective on The Global Water Crisis,” to be held Tuesday, March 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the 3rd floor atrium at Rotary International headquarters. A panel discussion with Q&A will feature various water experts. A Goose Island- sponsored “idea exchange” will be held from 5 to 6:30, with tastings from Goose Island and Temperance Breweries.

 

  • Mark your Calendars for District Conference: The annual District 6440 Conference is coming April 10-12 in Itasca. Our club will have car-pooling available for anyone who wants to go.  Please see President Paul if you are interested in attending. Some club members are planning on attending on Saturday, April 11 if you want to go for just one day.

 

March 19 Meeting Summary

There was no formal club meeting on March 19. Twelve Rotarians assisted Peer Services with a mailing, including Kat Eiff, Paul Giddings, Dave Stumpf, John Robertson, Harry Vreough, Paul Larson, Diane Krier-Morrow (with husband Michael), Bridget McDonough, Guy Riendeau, Diane Claussen, and Annie Coakley.

Leadership Evanston on April 2!

Don’t miss our April 2 program: Jennifer Moran, Executive Director of Leadership Evanston, will discuss the program’s goals and activities, and we will induct our new members. Also, members of our newly launched Community Volunteer Corps will be introduced to the club.
