Wally Bobkiewicz opened the meeting with a preview of upcoming meetings. August 27 will be a club assembly featuring Brian King, who will focus on membership plans for the upcoming year. We will not meet on Sept. 3 due to the Labor Day weekend. September meetings include:
Sept. 10 – Irwin Weil, expert on Russia
Sept. 17 – District 6440 Governor Rodney Adams
Sept. 24 – Karen Danczak Lyons, Director, Evanston Library
On Oct. 1, we will meet at the new Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center on Church Street – stay tuned for more details.
Diane Krier Morrow reminded club members to mark their calendars for Streets Alive, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 13 on Main Street. The club will again have a booth and this year we will be hosting a raffle to raise money for international projects.
Dick Peach promoted a new program from Northwestern created just for Rotarians and Rotary staff members, offering them tickets for NU football as low as $15. Diane Claussen urged members to support a “Chopped Challenge,” cooking event to be held Sat. Oct. 17 at Kendall College in Chicago, benefiting Culinary Care – the organization that provides meals for cancer patients and their families. (Courtney White, President and Founder, was our speaker several weeks ago.) See Diane for more details.
It was great to see Bob Loweth again, who is in the process of transferring his membership from the Carlsbad, California club back to the Home Club. Welcome back to Evanston, Bob.
Orchids and Onions
Diane Krier Morrow and Ada Kahn had a great time at Light Opera Works’ production of South Pacific – it runs until Aug. 30.
Dick Peach loves the great weather we’ve had, but it reminds him of being on his fishing vacation – a fading memory.
Ada Kahn just returned from a 7-day Lake Michigan cruise with her 15-year old grandson, who is a Paul Harris Fellow.

Program: Service Project
Rather than a speaker, we spent the reminder of the lunch meeting finishing up our Summer 2015 hands-on service project. Kat Eiff and the Service Committee organized another great back-to-school supplies drive, which involved club members purchasing school supplies and packing them in boxes to be delivered to help several Evanston pre-schools. Overall we contributed nearly $1,000 in school supplies this year – a great effort!
