Thanks for making a busy Rotary week a success!
Many thanks to the club members who turned out for our joint program with the Music Institute of Chicago on April 23, the Stand Against Racism on April 24 and Rebuilding Together on April 25! It was a busy week, and your involvement in these three activities made a difference.
Feedback about our special concert on April 23, featuring violin prodigy Julian Rhee, has been excellent. We had good turnout by non-Rotarians, including guests from various businesses in the Rotary International building. Our partnership with the Music Institute of Chicago remains strong.
More than 80 organizations and an estimated 3,000 people took part in the Stand Against Racism on April 24 on Ridge Ave. Rotary was among the 80 supporting this event. Like our relationship with the Music Institute, our support for YWCA programs, and their participation in our events, is an important part of our club’s community outreach.
Rotarians from our club were also on hand Saturday, April 25 to help out with the Rebuilding Together home refurbishing at 1817 Emerson Street. Interactors and NU Rotaract members were also there, along with members of the Rotary Club of Evanston, Lighthouse. In addition to helping with refurbishing, our club coordinated food for the volunteers.
PizzaFest is May 19 -- distribute your tickets!
This year we will have our annual fundraiser at Gigio’s Pizza, 1001 Davis Street (corner of Davis and Maple). Time and date is 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19. If you haven’t received your tickets yet, please see Dave Stumpf or Gene Servillo. Prices this year will be: $20/adult and $12/child (12 or under), with tickets available at the door: $25/adult and $15/child. For more information please see either Dave or Gene.
Rotary Flame to visit our club on April 30
At our April 30 meeting, District Governor Ellen Young and international members of Rotary will visit our club with the “Rotary Flame,” which has been traveling the world to commemorate India’s successful eradication of polio. The flame is much like the Olympic Torch and will eventually be permanently stored at RI headquarters. We hope you will be sure to attend for a special flame-ceremony to mark the important work we are doing regarding polio.
Evanston Chamber update this week!
Don’t miss Evanston Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Elaine Kemna-Irish, who will be our featured speaker on April 30. Elaine will update us on new initiatives from the Chamber -- another strong community partner.
Upcoming programs in May
John Robertson will speak to the club on May 7 about the new 8-story Hyatt House extended-stay hotel project at 1515 Chicago Ave. (Construction is moving along fast). Tracy Tebear will preside.
May 14 will be a club assembly and a chance for the outgoing and incoming club leadership teams to talk about transition plans for 2015-2016.
No meeting the week of May 21 -- Pizzafest will be held on May 19.
Our May 28 meeting will feature Amanda Runge from the Rotary Foundation, who will provide updates on annual giving to the Rotary Foundation.
