Build a Dream
Today's program was a presentation by Wayne Prindiville and Fred Neuschei representing Build a Dream. What started out as a project to help a family here in Illinois has blossomed into something much larger.
The family needed to move back to El Vaquero, Mexico. In 2004, a small group from Build a Dream, went to Mexico to help build a home for this family that had previously lived in Illinois. While building this home, the group recognized a need and desire to do much more. Wanting to improve the lives of the under privileged children in the town they focused on giving scholarships to allow the students a chance to stay in school. Thanks to the dedication of the two teachers who run and teach at Emiliano Zapata Middle School, the school has been judged as the best school in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi for six years in a row. In 2012 the school was named as the best middle school out of 32,000 schools in all Mexico. Build a Dream now sponsors 31 students in this school and on into high school. They currently assist 3 students at the university.
If that isn't a great enough accomplishment, they have gone on to bring potable water into the community. Another of their long-term goals is to build a community center. In the meantime, they will continue to provide scholarships, repair homes, provide shoes, clothing and school supplies.
