Rotary President K.R. Ravindran has named six Rotary Global Women of Action for 2015. The honorees were chosen for their dedication and service, which has improved the lives of thousands around the world.
“Every day at Rotary I see firsthand how our members work to change lives and make a significant impact,” said Ravindran. “Rotary’s Global Women of Action embody Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self.”
The women will be honored at Rotary Day at the United Nations in New York City on 7 November. They will address attendees and lead discussions on various topics related to their work.

When Mariana Day moved in 1989 to the small beach town of Chacala, in Nayarit, Mexico, she noticed that the surrounding rural areas struggled to maintain schools. And most children weren’t able to go beyond an eighth-grade education. Day, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Bahía de Jaltemba-La Peñita, in Nayarit, had started a local scholarship program before she joined Rotary. Called Changing Lives, the program provided students with high school tuition, uniforms, school supplies, and transportation.

Sadly, the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove has lost it's last charter member, Jack Renskers. On Saturday, December 12th, Jack went into cardiac arrest and was later removed from life support. All those who knew Jack feel a tremendous loss. He exemplified what it means to be "A Rotarian" and not just "in Rotary". It is apparent that "The Four Way Test" and "Spirit of Rotary" were foremost in his decisions and actions.
When our club was chartered back on January 21, 1970, Jack was a part of the founding membership and remained an Active Member in Rotary long into his retirement. Even as his health began to fail, he would try to make as many of our social events as possible. A special thank you goes out to his friend, Cindi Williams, for helping him to stay connected and keeping us informed of his status.

Century Raffle - Steve Moore reported that he still has 30 tickets that have not been distributed. He may need some members to sell more than the 5 that were originally planned.
Vision Plan - Jack reported that we're still on schedule for February 2nd. Everyone should fill out the questionnaire that was emailed last week and get it returned to Mike Ericksen.
Farmers Market - The membership voted to sponsor the summer Farmers Market if an acceptable agreement can be made with Cindy as the Manager. Sponsorship will be on a one year basis.
Jack Renskers Memorial - The membership voted to contribute $13,500 to RI in memorial of Jack.

This year's reverse raffle will be held at Galati's on March 16, 2016. Tickets for this event where distributed at the January 7th weekly meeting. If you were not present, please contact Steve Moore so that he can arrange to drop off your tickets. The focus for club membership this year is to sell their tickets and also get people to attend the event. While the money received from ticket sales represents the major portion of revenue for this event, the side raffles have potential for making this event even more successful.
The Club will be working with District 6440 to update the Strategic Plan that it developed in 2007. The planning session will be held at the Algonquin Township Offices on February 1, 2016, beginning at 5:00 PM. All Club Members are encouraged to attend this session and to be present by 5:00 so that the process can begin on time. Recommendations adopted at that session will be the foundation for future club endeavors. Please plan on attending this very important meeting. That form was sent to the membership by Steve, but it is also in the Club Document file, or you can get a copy by clicking here. I am enjoying my time here at Northwestern, though it is very challenging. My phone call went well and she told me to apply for an internship with the Archimedes Project, so I will definitely update you with any further information/developments.
I am also involved with some volunteer projects here and am now on the Special Events Committee for Northwestern Community Development Corps. In October, I volunteered as a chaperone for one of their events called Project Pumpkin, which held a Halloween/trick-or-treating event for kids (and their parents) who live in dangerous areas around Evanston and Chicago. I loved being back doing hands-on volunteering, but there were so many flaws with the event organization that I had to get on the board for future events. After winter break, we'll be planning a Senior Prom for the local elderly, and I'm excited since I have a lot of experience with my friends from Three Oaks Assisted Living.

One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group. As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.
Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove will be conducting a Winter Farmer's Market beginning Sunday, October 4th. The event will be held in-doors at the Algonquin Township offices located at 3702 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake Illinois. The market will be located in building #6 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 01:00 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of the month.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove’s membership is a diverse group of individuals that work together to improve the communities of Cary and Fox River Grove.
